The Source of Courage, The Root of Fear – Poetry

She screams of the east
Yet lives like the west
And she’s stuck philosophically
Somewhere in between
Like crosses set atop the vast peaks of Asia
In stark contrast to the sky.
She is my flower amidst the mire
She bought my heart with kisses and smiles
Replacing the darkness of life
With the sweet darkness of her hair
And she breaks the cynic within me
Every time she emerges from
The sky and storms and sea.

The spiritual side of life
Is both moving and terrifying
The spiritual side to day and night
In the power unseen
Only felt
Moving one to tears
Or tremors of awe
Or terror
The source of courage
The root of fear
Vast and dangerous and unseen
Far from mind but oh so near
